Two Nights at Flying Fox: Posy-Making creating friendships and connection in the community

Last week we had the pleasure of joining @flyingfoxau for two evenings of posy-making. These 'hangouts' are held in StKilda for people with disabilities becuase 'Fun is a human right'. One group was with the under 18s on Tuesday, and one with the adults on Wednesday.

Both sessions were part of Flying Fox's weekly Hangouts, their regular community activities that build lasting friendships and social connection for young people with disability. Two completely different groups, and the same amount of fun in the room both nights.

Why Flowers Work So Well for This

Flowers don't need explaining. You smell them, you touch them, you look at the colours sitting in your hands. Every sense gets a go, no matter how you take the world in. That's what made both sessions so good to be part of, everyone could join in their own way.

A Mission Close to Home

We both have a mission of creating connection through activities. Our own Community Posy Project runs on the same idea, bringing people together to make and share flowers, because connection matters as much as the finished bunch.

Thank you to Flying Fox for having us out. We'd jump at the chance to do it again.
